February 11, 2010 - Ecological and its co-sponsor, The Hudson Square Connection, hosted a seminar focusing on the recently passed Greener, Greater Buildings Legislation. The event was the first of a series of seminars that Ecological will host on topics that pertain to the greening of large real estate portfolios. The event was held in the NYC ACRE incubator space in downtown Manhattan, which is the incubator for clean technology and renewable energy start-up companies that is hosted by NYU Poly and funded by NYSERDA. Ecological is the incubator’s largest tenant, and the office space is located within the Hudson Square Business Improvement District. The Hudson Square Connection helped attract a large audience of building owners and managers within the area.
On December 9, 2009, the City Council of New York passed four pieces of legislation that Mayor Bloomberg proposed as part of his “PlaNYC” program for a sustainable New York. The “Greener, Greater Buildings” legislation is one of the most significant environmental plans undertaken by any city in the United States. Ecological CEO Anthony Sblendorio, along with three other panelists, discussed the ramifications that the legislation will have for building owners and managers in NYC and what they should do to comply.
Panelists:
Anthony Sblendorio, CEO of Ecological, a Sustainability Performance Services Company that implements sustainability programs for commercial real estate.
Grace Kurdian, Partner at McCarter English, focuses on regulatory compliance, specifically in energy and public utilities law.
Pamela Lippe, President of e4 Inc., which provides high performance building consulting and sustainability support services.
Sean Neill, Principal at Cycle-7, which leads the Green Lease Forum on behalf of the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Moderated by Constantine E. Kontokosta, LEED AP Clinical Assistant Professor Director, Center for the Sustainable Built Environment Shack Institute of Real Estate NYU.
