New York, New York September 29, 2010 -- The Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology® and Ecological LLC are pleased to announce the formation of a strategic alliance to collectively promote the adoption of sustainable business practices, including the use of green cleaning products. The Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology, a part of Hackensack University Medical Center, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation where the award-winning Greening the Cleaning® program for sustainable cleaning products originated. Ecological is a New York City based firm that develops and implements sustainability action plans for real estate portfolios, buildings, and tenants in order to reduce costs, improve efficiency, achieve regulatory compliance, and increase asset value. The partnership will augment the existing efforts of both organizations to incorporate sustainability initiatives in buildings and to improve the environments within which we live and work.
The organizations will work together to increase public awareness with regards to toxic cleaning products and misleading ‘green’ advertising in the marketplace. New York State now requires cleaning products to disclose the chemical ingredients used in their products, as well as any health risks they pose to users. The Greening the Cleaning® product line has fully disclosed its ingredients since its inception in 2001 and continues to advocate for transparency with regards to products used around both children and adults. In addition, 100% of all profits from the institutional products go to the Environmental Center for supporting education and research to identify, control and ultimately prevent exposures to environmental factors that may cause adult, and especially, pediatric cancer, as well as other health problems with our children.
Ecological will recommend and refer the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center as an educational resource for clientele. The center serves as a wonderful example of how sustainable principles can be integrated into a hospital and workplace while simultaneously improving the working environment and lowering operating costs. In addition, Ecological will offer its customers the opportunity to adopt the Greening the Cleaning® program as an easy way of improving indoor air quality, reducing cleaning costs, enhancing employee health, and contributing to a greener and more sustainable building environment.
